In 2005, I took a passage from Iberia to Germany and back stayed a week at a friend's house in Madrid. At night we went to a bar in La Latina and Lavapies regions, cinema, jazz concerts, etc, but can not remember names and addresses to indicate.
Day, my friend was in week trial at university and spent the whole day there between tests and study and I walked quite around town, did some shopping and visited several attractions that did not have time the first time in the city. Did not go through all these places below in one day, but it is possible - the part of interest to tourists in Madrid city is compact. In another post I will talk about those things, but doing a walk through the local post that gives walk to enjoy the city without spending anything. And Madrid is beautiful enough to not need to have a grand monument like the Eiffel Tower or the Colosseum - the whole city is doing. Some photos below are from the 2001 trip, but most are 2005. El oso y el madroño in Puerta del Sol This statue of the bear and the tree is a symbol of the city and is the Puerta del Sol, usually crowded with pedestrians, both locals and tourists. Searching on Google, I found 3 translations for "madroño" and do not know which is correct. For some reason I always thought this tree was an apple tree (which is written on various websites out there), redflagdeals but in most places it is found that the blueberry tree and read up on a site that would be the strawberry tree!
